We've been looking forward with anticipation to that day when we can say bye bye to the whole diaper situation. Naively, I thought way back in January of 2010 that we were about to do just that. A year later, we've tried to provide Ella the chance to get used to doing her stuff on the big toilet for several months now. At times, she seemed more interested in just sitting on there, or this (from December):

However, she crossed one of the big hurdles last month, when she dropped a number 2 in the big toilet for the first time. Notice the happiness on her face. We had big smiles too :)

Well, I thought it would be smooth sailing after that. I thought she'd naturally have it mastered after that one successful deposit. It hasn't been the case, but we haven't been as consistent with her as we should be. It's also tough when we're not with her all the time. Picking her up last week from her Lolo's house one day, she said she went (number 1).

We're not sure as no one else heard it to corroborate her story. I came into the room and snapped the picture after the fact. But regardless, she went today at home. And she didn't waste any time in reminding me of her prize: "2 gums". Here's to hoping for continued big toilet use!

i was going to suggest bribes of some sort. I used to let you guys put stickers on the little potty each time you made a deposit. I think by the time poor lauren was being trained there wasn't any room left for her stickers!
but it seemed to work.
Tell Ella we are so proud of her!
tell ella i am proud of her too!! and don't believe randy when he tells you "I was trained when i was 6 months!!"... a gross exaggeration... but i will concede he was much easier to train than the girls!! love gee-gee
haha, last time i heard him tell it, it was down to 3 months! Somehow it seems to keep getting earlier :)
way to go, ella!!! i think i used m&ms with the boys. but titus got a bad case of the squirts so i quit that. sigh. whatever works i say. i do not miss those days! actually, erin helped with joseph. remember that, er? i had jury duty on a tues. and joseph has just started training that monday, i believe. anyway, i like your mom's idea of the stickers. i think i did a sticker chart as well.
for the record...uncle randy's quite the embellisher.
yup i remember helping with joseph! it was m&ms at the time, but i think you quickly switched to stickers as well!
