She was unable to enjoy the famed boardwalk at Ocean City this year though. I doubt she remembers much about our 2008 trip, when she was only 6 months old. She surely has many future memories in store of walking the boards and doing the rides there. But in the meantime, we let her get a taste at the Santa Monica Ferris Wheel last night. I'm probably biased, but the Santa Monica Pier is nothing to the Ocean City experience...I won't go into the details of why. But it does have a Ferris Wheel, Scrambler, and a constant flow of crazy looking people. And...it's featured in countless movies, including Forrest Gump.

Braving the crowds and traffic on a weekend night in Santa Monica is enough to make you lose your mind. Luckily, doing it for your child makes it all worth it. Ella at first was scared when we got in line for the Ferris Wheel (which brought back memories of me being scared on the old OC Ferris Wheel with Richie Weidner - poor guy thought I was going to jump out)
...but once she saw the roller coaster, it was pure excitement for the rides.

Pier

She loved that she could see the waves and sand from the Ferris Wheel.
Later we were standing over the water, looking down from the pier. Ella looked at the crests of the waves and told us, "that's where the waves come from" (at least I think that's what she meant).
Unfortunately, instead of finding the likes of Mack and Manco or some nice boardwalk fries, the Santa Monica Pier has Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Coffee Bean. Yuck. But we did get Ella a churro and later we found a nice NY style pizza place.

A few posts back, I did a late summer wrap up. Well, summer is apparently not giving up yet. It's 100 degrees today (Tuesday). So guess where we're headed? Yep, Malibu!

you know, i'm not sure i could go on a ferris wheel now. i've become quite the scare de cat of late. Lynn, remember when Randy stood up in the OC ferris wheel? Wait, is that a true memory or something I dreamed up...I'm pretty sure he did.
are you having a senior moment and thinking of me?? as in the story of me and richie in OC that i just wrote about? cuz you'd just be the next in line after grammy and my mom to get us (me and uncle randy) mixed up lol
that is exactly what i was going to say Jay! i remember that day like it was yesterday. I was so scared you would totally freak and try to get out of the ferris wheel. Richie was so calm, only like richie can be. too funny.
thanks so much for this post. I love thinking about OC.It makes me sad tho that we didn't get there this summer. But we did have a great time in the poconos! When you come again, we will make a trip down there even it if is for just a day and evening on "the boards". Scrambler!!!! We will all do it.
